Ernie Post becomes the new pastor on July 2, 2013.
A brief autobiography follows:
I was born in Paterson New Jersey and moved to Frankfurt Germany in 9th grade. During my teenage years my family traveled Europe and I saw some of the spectacular cathedrals across the continent. My trip to St. Peters and the Sistine Chapel had a profound impact on me. I attended Virginia Tech from 1974-78 and received a B. A. in English and later and M.A in Literature in 1981. While at Virginia Tech, I taught classes in Literature, Argumentative Writing, and Logic. I met my wife Brenda during graduate school and we married in 1979. Brenda worked as an administrative assistant at Virginia Tech until we moved to Princeton where I earned a Masters of Divinity in 1984. My first appointment was as an assistant pastor at The First United Methodist Church of Lansdale from 1981-1988. I then went to St. Paul’s UMC in Elizabethtown PA from 1988-1995. In the fall of 1995 I received an invitation to launch a new United Methodist Church outside Orlando. My family took it as a sign from God and started singing, “We’re moving to Disneyworld.” So we packed all we had and moved to Ocoee Florida, not knowing a single person in Central Florida and started the West Oaks United Methodist Church.
The church grew and was chartered with 125 members in 1997. We later merged with the Ocoee United Methodist Church and became Ocoee Oaks united Methodist Church. The church continued to grow and built a new facility in 2004. In 2005 the church launched its preschool and soon after that the after school program and day care. These ministries have proven to be essential to the continued growth of Ocoee Oaks. The church now has nearly 400 in worship each week and is bursting for more space. Most recently we purchased a second facility for ministry where we have alternative worship services and youth ministry.
Brenda and I have two married children. Our son Matthew is married to Tracy and they have four children—Andrea, Dominic, Elijah, and Isaac. Our daughter Ashley is married to Ryan and they have a son, Ezekiel who is two.
Brenda is disabled and in a wheelchair. She has an amazing resiliency, having gone through three back surgeries, nine strokes, five heart attacks and three bouts with cancer. She still wears a smile and loves to make new friends and laugh with them. Ernie loves to create new opportunities for God to work, problem solve, and grow the kingdom. I have been seen on the golf course a few times and have been known to catch a fish or two. One of my passions over the last 20 years has been to take my son and most recently my grandsons on survival trips—the carry your canoe over the mountain and catch your own food kind of trips.
