Since so many of you have asked about Paul, I will give you an update from today. I missed Tuesday, but am usually there most days of the week.
Since his unit is still under quarantine, he has been eating his meals on the porch. Today it began to get cooler so we went indoors. While we were visiting in his room the social worker came in to get an update required by Medicare and the VA. He had difficulty remembering some things but the thing that surprised me most of all was when she asked about his brothers and sisters. At first he said he had brothers, then looked to me to help, which I wasn’t allowed to do, then he said he had no brothers, but some sisters. When asked to name them he only mentioned Mildred, Betty and Louise. He has a brother and two younger sisters that he couldn’t remember at the time.
He said he’d had a call from Karen earlier, but they got cut off.
As I left I stopped by the social worker’s office and she was bragging on him despite his memory loss. He looks great and his nurse Debbie said he’s always able to verbalize what he wants or needs which so many others can’t do. Mary, the social worker, said he is really intelligent and I understand that Liz, from Hospice, had a good visit with him. I was not home when she called to tell me, but that was passed on by the social worker. I go back on the afternoon of the 27th for a Care Conference with the staff.
Under the circumstances things are going well. God is good and has provided so many of you for encouragement and support. God bless you.
Love,
Fran/Frances,/Mom
