In remembering the sermon from last Sunday, I’m thinking again of the Scripture used: Isaiah 9:1-7. In verse 2 we read these words: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.”
Sometimes we don’t appreciate the light till we have none. Then the smallest light takes on a new meaning. Ask some of those people still without electricity, or even a home as a result of the monster storm “Sandy.” They are looking for any light at all. Yet in their need for even a small light it is nothing compared to the light we need to see from God, namely His Son Jesus Christ.
In 1988 when my dad was near death and he was on oxygen, the lights went out but the bell to the oxygen did not. This was the middle of the night in south Georgia, and no matches or flashlight could be found so that I could call for help. Then I remembered a small lipstick case given to me by a friend from the Shriners, and it had a small light. In all that darkness, I had enough light to call my brother to get help.
We, personally and as a nation, need God’s help. We need the light that only He can offer.
Heavenly Father, forgive our sins, help us to look to You for the guiding light that we need daily. We thank You for Your blessings and Your grace. May Your light shine in and through us to others that Your name might be glorified.
In His service,
Fran
