Devotion 12-10-12

Yesterday being the 2nd Sunday in Advent, the topic was on peace.  And one of the things I thought of were some of the words to the song by Spafford, “It Is Well with My Soul.”  And the first verse goes like this:

“When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.”

But the best example of peace is found in the words of Jesus in John 14:27:  “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

God, this day we can have this peace because of what You’ve already done for us through Your Son Jesus Christ.  In His name I pray.  Amen.

Devotion 10/10/12

Psalm 118:24:  This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Just for today–From Al-Anon

Just for today: I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at once.
I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

Just for today:  I will be happy.  This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

Just for today:  I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires.  I will take my *luck* as it comes and fit myself into it.

Just for today:  I will try to strengthen  my mind.  I will study.  I will not be a mental loafer.  I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.

Just for today:  I will exercise my soul in three ways:  it will do somebody a good turn and not get found out;  if anybody knows of it , it will not count.  I will do at least two things I don’t want to do–just for exercise.  I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt:  they may be hurt but today I will not show it.

Just for today:  I will be agreeable.  I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly, keep my voice low, be courteous, criticize not one bit.  I won’t find fault with anything, nor try to improve or regulate anybody else but myself.

Just for today:  I will have a program.  I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it.  I will save myself from two pests:  Hurry and indecisions.

Just for today:  I will have a quiet half hour all by myself, and relax.  During this half hour, sometime I will try to get a better perspective of my life.

Just for today:  I will be un-afraid.  Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give back to me.

Heavenly Father, thank you for this day we have before us.  We’ve never had one like it before.  God be with us and guide us because we are unable to face life without You.  You are life and in You we have our very being. In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Morning Fran,  I hope everything is well with you. First of all I just wanted to say thanks for putting us all on Prayer Chain. Cindys daughter has a lump in her breast. She and her family are from China.
Now are you ready for this?  As bad as the pain in my left leg is and of course the right one too yesterday coming home from work Danny and I were involved in a bad wreck. I had been taking pain medication for my leg so I asked Danny to drive my truck home. We almost made it home. Crossing Memorial one light past George Rd. towards the Veterans Hwy. We had a solid green light and a woman in a little Toyota ran the red light and hit my truck as heavy as it is so hard that we spun almost all the way around. Both my feet were jammed into the floorboard and now they hurt all the way up to my knees. Truck went to Bill Currie Ford and when I pick up my rental car I’ll be going to T& C hospital to have my legs cheked out. I am at work because I can’t afford to miss but the pain is even worse. Please have the prayer warriors keep me in them.
