Hi Fran, I hate to report that my dad, Ed is back in the hospital with pnemonia (again).

He has been taking a break from chemo and they even thought he might be in remission from his lymphoma of the lungs.  As the doctor explained yesterday, his lungs were already comprised by the lymphoma and then chemo did more damage

SO he really has to be very mindful of his health. Mom said he hasn’t been feeling well for a few days now and his cough was very persitant Wednesday night so they felt he better go to the doctor.  They believe my dad has lung aspiration (just fluid at this time). They are planning on having him meet with a therapist to teach him better swallowing technics to prevent this.

Any and all prayers appreciated !

Sincerely,

  • my surgery information ….‏

Hi, all.  I apologize for not sending out this information  earlier.  I’m still not totally with it!
Had surgery on 11/01/12 (under for about 3 hours I guess) – removal of left  upper lobe and 5 lymph nodes.  (For those of you who like medical  terminology, procedures were:  bronchoscopy; left thoracotomy; and upper  lobectomy.)  I was released from the hospital on 11/05, and then spent time  at my sister and brother-in-law’s for 6 days.  I went to my surgeon’s  office yesterday (Wednesday, 11/14) for follow-up and removal of stiches and  staples.  Surgery site seems to be healing nicely.  Back home on  Saturday, 11/10.
I’ve been having trouble breathing, so was sent to pulmonologist today  (Thursday, 11/15).  Diagnosis – bronchitis.  I got chilled Sunday  evening – locked myself out of my house while taking a stroll for my exercise  (neighbor came home and he had my house key Smile), so don’t know if that  contributed to the bronchitis.  To my knowledge, I haven’t been around  anyone who is sick.
I asked the surgeon if I would have to have chemotherapy – no malignancies  found in any of the surrounding lung tissue and lobes.  Dr. James is one  who likes to do things immediately if he feels there is a problem, so I thought  it to be good news that he thought we could wait to consult the oncologist  following my next appointment – January 4, 2013.  I just pray that all is  great by then.  I’m impatient and think I should get well soon.
Guess that’s about it for now.  May you all have a happy and blessed  Thanksgiving and safe travels for all who are going out of town for the  holiday.
Love,
Karen kmarotz@tampabay.rr.com

Devotion 11/16/12

Good morning,

Sometimes when life seems to come full force with the unexpected, it is a time to rely on our faith in the One who sees from beginning to the end.  We are only able to see the circumstances of the moment.  But it is at our weakest point that God’s love can shine through the brightest.  Sometimes it is through family and friends, but most of all the greatest friend we can have, Jesus Christ.

In the book of Habakkuk 3:17-18 we read these words of faith and confidence in our God:

“Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls—yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

As we prepare for this day and the weekend, it is always good to know that God has gone before us and prepared the way.

Father, we thank you that in all things and circumstances, we have You with us and the Holy Spirit within us to give the strength needed for each occasion.  We thank You for Your faithfulness.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

In His service,

Fran
