Other people are Important

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3-4

Wesley Church seeks to go into the community with acts of love and service so that our neighbors can begin and grow in their relationship with Jesus.

Each opportunity is a chance for you to connect with your passion and your purpose and live out the gospel as a transformed believer.  We also encourage everyone to take every opportunity to invite others on this journey of transformation through service.

Homeless ministry.  Every Saturday and Sunday we make meals for the homeless.  You are welcome to serve either day.  Prep begins at 6 am in the kitchen.

Going further:  include your family in this as a regular offering.  Prepare small bags of helpful items in advance.  Keep a bag in your car and have your children (or someone driving with you) hand out a bag at the corner.

Clothing.  We gather clothing that we give away as needed.  Sneakers and t-shirts in the summer.  In the winter, sweatshirts and jeans.

Going further:  When it gets cold outside, have a blanket or sweatshirt in your car ready to give away.

Pack-A-Sack.  We collect food items for children at Dickenson Elementary and each Friday take bags to the school for the counselor to give away.  You can go to  www.wesleymemorial.net to see a list of food items we need.

Going further:  Have your friends, neighborhood association, sporting team, scout group, business join hands and get involved.

Free Yard Sale.  The second Saturday of December we sponsor a free yard sale for the community.  Everyone brings items at around 6 in the morning and others come and get things.

Going further:  Challenge your neighbors, business, sporting team, scout group to simplify their lives and bring some things to give away.  Hang around and help, meet some people.

Buddy Break.  The third Saturday of each month volunteers gather to help families of children with disabilities have a three-hour respite.

Going further.  You or your work or neighborhood could sponsor a special Saturday for the families.  Contact Janis Small (813-929-1606)

GO days.  Twice a year we go into the community to help our neighbors with home projects.  We also assist community groups like the local elementary schools, Assure Women’s Center, Rosa Valdez Center.  We go to retirement homes for worship or to share a gift.  Most recently, we have adopted Church Park on Webb road.  Come on GO weekends and get involved.

Going further:  Meet your neighbors and ask if they could use some assistance.  Then ask you other neighbors to come and help out on our GO days.

Samaritan’s Purse.  All year we gather items that go into shoeboxes to be delivered to children around the world for Christmas. Help by collecting items,  Each box is a ray of hope and includes the gospel message.  You can collect items, help fill the boxes, pray for the children.

Going further:  Ask your friends, family, neighbors, business to partner and collect things for the boxes.

Kaye Prox Food Bank.  We collect non-perishable food items for the community that gets distributed through the Lutheran Church on Hillsborough.  You can help by giving food items, picking up food from Feed America once a week, sort the items on Thursdays, or distribute the food on Fridays.

Going further:  Challenge your friends, business and neighbors to connect and help.
